How to Contact Media Relations until Sept 3

USE EMAIL: Between now and 9/1, email is the best way to contact either Dan Carroll (mediarelations@dragoncon.org) or Samm Douglas (interviews@dragoncon.org). Our standard is to respond to emails within 4 hours during the day.

If you have a time sensitive situation, such as a pending interview that day, please feel free to follow up with a phone call, but remember we both are working full time careers during the day, so we seldom can respond to a phone call immediately.

September 2 and September 3 we will be in transit to the Dragon Con location.  We will be monitoring our email, and we will respond as possible.  There will be times when we will not be available, please be patient.

How to contact Dragon Con Media Relations September 4-7:

CALL DRAGON CON MEDIA RELATIONS REGISTRATION: You can reach us most effectively by calling the Hyatt Regency and asking for the GREENBRIAR ROOM. Do not ask for Dragon Con Media Relations because that will not make sense to them. They are hotel workers, not Dragon Con staffers.

404-577-1234

We will continue to check phone messages, email, and SMS texts, but cannot guarantee same day responses.  Please read that sentences again…we cannot guarantee same day voice mail, email and SMS text response during Dragon Con. This is why we ask you to call registration.
Pub Crawl!

https://www.facebook.com/events/1499186200374135/

Starts: Wednesday Sept 2: 7:00 PM

Dragon Con Media Relations Volunteer Deena Roth will be guiding reporters through the host hotels while regaling them with facts and interesting information about Dragon Con 2015 and Dragon Cons past! Along the way there is plenty of time to stop for a libation and some conversation with the rest of the team and fellow reporters.

How do I get my badge?

Consistent with previous years, Dragon Con badges will not be mailed prior to the convention.

Badges may be picked up at Media Relations Registration, located at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in the Greenbriar Room.

  • The Hyatt regency is located at: 265 Peachtree Street NE Atlanta, Georgia, USA, 30303
  • The Greenbriar room is located on the Motor Lobby (lowest) level of the hotel, to the left of the elevators and escalators.

Media Relations badge pick-up hours are:

Date Day Hours
Sept 3 Thursday 2PM-10PM
Sept 4 Friday 9AM-9PM
Sept 5 Saturday 9AM-6PM
Sept 6 Sunday 9AM-5PM
Sept 7 Monday 9AM-3PM

NOTE: All journalists, photographers, analysts, etc. must present photo identification on-site in order to obtain a badge.

We are unable to provide additional badges on site. Substitutions on site are unlikely, but are granted on a case by case basis.  There is no registration on site except for Atlanta broadcast, Atlanta Press, and nationally significant media. We define nationally significant as media known to the general public.

Too late for interviews? No! New Opportunities Available!

We have opened COMIC/ARTIST/LITERARY (and science too!) interviews to all approved reporters.  We have a tighter restraint on media (Walk of Fame) guests because of agent agreements. Those requests have been submitted, and now everyone can get a chance to interview a Dragon Con guest with a great story!  These interviews will be conducted in the Hyatt Regency.  Request an interview today!

Requests for interviews with official Dragon Con representative and Media Director Dan Carroll are still available:

New Reporter Walk Through!

Are you a first or second year reporters at Dragon Con?  Consider joining our new reporter walk through on Friday 9/4/2015.  We are tentatively scheduled for 9:30 AM, though it is possible that we will be starting at 10 AM.  We will answer questions about Dragon Con and help you to get oriented as we walk through 3 of the 5 host hotels for a brief introduction to Dragon Con. Wear comfortable shoes and bring your questions!

New Podcast: Reporters Strike Back-2015!

This week Spencer Perry (Superherohype.com and comingsoon.net) and Renee Cooper (The Aficionados) join me to talk about reporting from Dragon Con from two perspectives: the established media reporter who adds convention coverage and the start up online reporter with a local focus.  Together they share great insights into covering Dragon Con.

Previous Updates

Remember that previous updates are excellent tools for preparing to cover Dragon Con. They answer your questions before you even ask them!  We ask that you check the website and the previous updates before emailing a question.

Dragon Con Parade: New Route

To better accommodate parade spectators, the parade will have a new, longer route. Beginning at the intersection of Peachtree Street and Linden Avenue, the parade will head south on Peachtree, east (left) on Andrew Young International Boulevard and north (left) on Peachtree Center Avenue. It will end on Peachtree Center Avenue between John Portman Boulevard and Baker Street, in front of the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.

DCTV Releases Parody Video

Dragon Con Media Relations is happy to share this new video by Dragon Con TV.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-79SqQdPcMQ

There’s a new Star Wars movie coming out … this makes the folks at DragonConTV wonder how it will all turn out. Are the fans excited? How does George Lucas feel? Can JJ Abrams dance? All this and more will be revealed in our musical tribute to Taylor Swift and “Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens”.
