PRESS RELEASE DRAGON CON ADDS eSPORTS TO GAMING LINEUP

Offering Cash Prizes Up To $10,000, Video Game Tournaments Will Be Live Streamed on Twitch

Over 140,000 Square Feet of Gaming Space Dominates AmericasMart, Featuring ‘Round the Clock Gaming Plus Panels With Top Game Designers, Voice Actors, and Industry Experts

ATLANTA – July 19, 2017 – Dragon Con, already one of the largest gaming conventions in the nation, has added cash-prize eSports tournaments, streamed over the Twitch platform, to its slate of game-specific programming.

Some 82,000 people are expected to attend Dragon Con, Atlanta’s internationally known pop culture, fantasy, and sci-fi convention, in 2017, filling downtown over the four-day Labor Day weekend, Sept. 1 to Sept. 4, with events and activities across AmericasMart Buildings One and Two and five host hotels – Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Marriott Marquis, Hilton Atlanta, Westin Peachtree, and Sheraton Atlanta.

Taking up more than 140,000 square feet in AmericasMart Building One and the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel, gaming at Dragon Con will feature the full array of gaming including PC and console games, board games, miniatures gaming, role-playing games, collectable card games, and even LARP games. There will be an expanded selection of free cabinet-style arcade games as well as arcade games from Japan and Asia not usually seen in the United States.

Tour for inexperienced Reporters at Dragon Con

Join the new reporters’ tour for Dragon Con 2017! We will walk through Dragon Con for 90 minutes to two hours, depending upon other commitments.  This tour is provided to new Dragon Con reporters who are covering Dragon Con for your first or second time.  We also open this to returning reporters who have not covered Dragon Con in several years. Date: Friday September, 1, 2017

Time: 11AM

Where: TBA

1) We will provide you the location to start the tour before August 30th. Please pay attention to your emails.

2) The tour will cover 3-4 host hotels and will involve brisk walking. Please let us know if you have mobility issues. We will work with you on providing alternate considerations.

3) The tour begins at 11:00 AM, though it is possible that circumstances could delay it until 11:30 AM.

Q: I just listened to the DCMR Podcast on Inteviews At Dragon Con, and I think I heard that Dragon Con reporters cannot request interview with guests on site? Is that right?

A: That is right. We respect our guests’ time and their desires to enjoy Dragon Con. Walk of Fame Guests are available for interview by invitation only. Reporters can request any other guest interview, but those guests need to approve those interviews prior to the convention.

2017 Comics and Pop Artist Alley

Dragon Con Comics & Pop Art returns to the Americas Mart in 2017, bigger and better than ever – now conveniently located in close proximity to the hundreds of exciting dealers in the Dragon Con Vendor Hall.

With close to 150 illustrators, sculptors, painters, and writers in attendance, Comics & Pop Artists Alley offers an eclectic array of creators from comics, animation, pop surrealism, lowbrow, and art toy design. Attendees have the opportunity to meet their favorite creators, get autographs, purchase comics and art, and attend fan panels over the course of four fantastic days.

The Atlanta Art Collectors will also be on hand again, presenting an incredible tribute to Jack Kirby and Will Eisner on their centennial year. Fans will be able to see amazing original works of art from dozens of illustrators who’ve blazed trails in comics and fantasy art.

  • Friday: 1pm – 7pm
  • Saturday & Sunday: 10am – 7pm
  • Monday: 10am – 5pm

Van Jensen is a former newspaper crime reporter and magazine editor who broke into comics as the writer of Pinocchio: Vampire Slayer, which was named one of YALSA’s Top Ten Great Graphic Novels for Teens. Kelly Sue DeConnick

Kelly Sue DeConnick began her comics career writing the English adaptations of Japanese comics for Tokyopop and VIZ. After 7 years and more than 10,000 pages on books like Slam Dunk, Blue Spring, and Sexy Voice And Robo, she transitioned to American comics with 30 Days of Night: Eben And Stella (IDW).

Amanda Conner & Jimmy Palmiotti

Amanda Conner started out in comics working on small projects for Marvel and Archie. She had been working as an illustrator for New York ad agencies Kornhauser and Calene and Kidvertisers. She worked on a number of launches and campaigns such as Arm & Hammer, PlaySchool, and Nickelodeon, to name a few.

Jimmy Palmiotti is a multi award winning character creator with a wide range of experience in advertising, production, consulting, editorial, film writing, development and production, media presentation and video game development. Just a few of his clients include Nike, Nickelodeon, Universal pictures, Disney, Warner Brothers, DreamWorks, Lion’s Gate, Vidmark, Starz, Fox Atomic, Alliance films, New Line, Spike TV, MTV, 2kgames, Midway, Radical games, Activision, and THQ games.
