What are my best sources of information about Dragon Con?
  • The Dragon Con App! (See iTunes and Google Play!)
  • The Daily Dragon https://dailydragon.dragoncon.org/
  • https://dragoncon.org
  • @DragonCon and @DragonConmedia on twitter.com
  • Sending an email asking specific questions to us using your name and outlet as the SUBJECT of the email
  • Gossip and rumors (maybe best to avoid this route)
Actually…if you hear good gossip/rumors send them on to us we gather them! We can confirm or deny most of them.
Best way to get to Dragon Con?
Star in a Star Trek TV Show or movie.  Otherwise, use MARTA.  https://marta.com/
We are trying to gather a list of parking lots by address, but do not want anyone to confuse this list as an endorsement.  We endorse MARTA.
Reporter Tours!
What is this about a pub crawl?
Details are being worked out, but we will meet around 7:00 PM and we will tour portions of Dragon Con, while enjoying adult beverages.  Reporters will be able to mingle with Dragon Con Directors and other reporters while Dan Carroll, Media Relations Direction for Dragon Con serves as your tour guide. This is our second year and last year turned into a blast.  This is open to all reporters, friends, colleagues, and Dragon Con directors and volunteers are also invited. .
Is there a new reporter walk though?  Yes!
First and Second Year reporters at Dragon Con will be allowed to register for a more formal walk trough of Dragon Con.   Sign up now!
This doesn’t have to be your first year to participate, but if you are a veteran, we ask that you ask Dan Carroll for clearance to join the tour. We want to answer a lot of questions for new reporters.
Policy Clarification!
Dragon Con is a fan convention, to which we welcome Media.  We are not a media convention that welcomes fans. All policies at Dragon Con Media Relation are set to facilitate your coverage, but we do set boundaries to ensure guests get maximum contact with fans and so fans are respected.
We want to clarify some policies:
  • Video replay of performances or panels:
    • You ARE ALLOWED to record panels and include them in your reporting if you incorporate original reporting around or with the video.  Playing a video of a panel with no original content will not be considered reporting.
    • You are NOT ALLOWED to record performances unless you have the express written consent of ALL performers.   These performances cannot be shared via the internet, youtube, etc, unless you have those SIGNED written consent
  • Photography On the Walk of Fame
    • Reporters can not take photography on the Walk of Fame (where the guests sign autographs).
    • Many guests charge fans to have a picture taken with them.
    • The walk of fame is for fan/guest interaction.
    • If you are a reporter and want to stand in line and get a picture with a guest for a fee that is acceptable.
    • If you want to work for a guest, which is a great thing, we ask that you purchase a badge rather than being a reporter.
    • Specifically we do not allow SLR style photography in the Walk of Fame.
    • This rule will be enforced this year, and violators can loose media access and their badge for 2014.
  • Requesting Interviews on Site
    • In 2014 we will not be processing interview requests on site
    • If you have not been asked to participate in interviews, please do not  ask for interviews with celebrity guests or writers onsite.
    • Agents for celebrity/media guests have asked that remind all reporters that you refrain from asking guests or agents for interviews at Dragon Con
    • Please do not harrass writers between panels
    • Reporters who do not respect these rules will be subject to badge being taken by security.
  • We have zero tolerance for mean comedy disguised as media coverage
    • We have a sense of humor
    • We do not tolerate abuse
    • Examples of abuse including asking attendees personal questions intended to make fans appear to be basement dwellers
    •  Physically hitting or smacking interviewees with microphones.
    • Trespassing to get coverage
    • Blatantly disrespectful presentation
We will be back with another update in a week. Let us know what else you need information on!
