Like Dragon Con, Dragon Con Media Relations has grown in recent years. We have record numbers of applications each year, and 2017 is on track to increase again. Unfortunately, Dragon Con Media Relations is not able to approve everyone who applies for Media, and one decision we have made recently is to limit College reporters.
Dragon Con is not a media convention, but rather a fan convention. The focus of Dragon Con, even in the Media Relations Department, is to create and support the best fan experience through panels, contests, and special events. The Media Relations Department is tasked with celebrating the convention and sharing the joy that is Dragon Con by working with professional media creating editorial content (reporting) focusing on fan experience, guests, events, and other aspects of the convention.
We will only be approving media access for universities that are in Metro Atlanta which have broadcast capability with significant impact in Atlanta. Examples include WRAS (GSU), WCKL (Clark Atlanta University), and WREK (GA Tech). We will be coordinating with staff from those schools to provide media access to a very limited number of student reporters. College students who are provided media access to Dragon Con will not be included in our guest interview process, but are free to report as their editors direct them. Student reporters will need to present current college ID to pick up their badges.
We regret any inconvenience. We wish we could accommodate all of the reporters who apply for media access, but we have a limited number of media passes.
