DRAGON CON SELECTS ATLANTA CENTER FOR SELF SUFFICIENCY AS OFFICIAL CHARITY

Sets Goal to Raise $100,000 for ACSS at the 30th Annual Dragon Con Convention;

Announces Slate of 2016 Superheroes Community Service Projects

ATLANTA – March 24, 2016 – Dragon Con, celebrating its 30th year as the internationally known pop culture, sci fi, fantasy and gaming convention, has selected Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency as its official charity for 2016.

In 2015, Dragon Con raised about $100,000 for the Lymphoma Research Foundation – Georgia Market through convention-based auctions, special merchandise sales, special events and a dollar for dollar match, up to $50,000, of any money raised for its official charity.

Dragon Con also announced its slate of Superheroes community service projects for Dragon Con members and fans in the Atlanta area.  This program, now in its third year, has contributed nearly 1,500 hours in community service to Atlanta-based non-profits.

Dragon Con Superheroes, Piedmont Park, Atlanta – March 19, 2016

“Our fans have demonstrated time after time that they have giving hearts.  We have heard wonderful stories of fans travelling to Atlanta for the convention, and bringing a load of coats or other supplies with them for our city’s homeless,” said Rachel Reeves, the convention co-chair.  “We are so honored to be able to make this organization our official charity during our 30th anniversary year.” (more…)

DRAGON CON, INC. AND MOMOCON FORGE STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

ATLANTA – March 7, 2016 – Dragon Con, Inc., parent company of the internationally known Dragon Con pop culture convention, and MomoCon LLC, parent of the fastest growing all ages fan convention in the country, have formed an unprecedented strategic partnership to share resources, knowledge and experience to ensure that Atlanta continues to have the strongest fan conventions in the country.

Importantly, Dragon Con, Inc. will provide MomoCon with back office and administrative support while the current MomoCon leadership, including founders Chris Stuckey and Jessica Merriman, will continue to organize the convention and serve as its co-chairs. Stuckey and Merriman will also take expanded roles with Dragon Con, Inc. and the Dragon Con convention.

Founded in 2005, MomoCon began as an outgrowth of Georgia Tech’s anime club. Its first convention attracted about 700 people to a free event on the school’s campus.  Ten years later, MomoCon attracted some 22,000 total attendees (more than 60,000 at the turnstile) to a four-day convention held in the Georgia World Congress Center.

“In today’s competitive convention landscape, having Dragon Con and its founder Pat Henry on our side is an incredible advantage,” Stuckey said.  “This partnership gives Jess and I the ability to pursue our vision for MomoCon while continuing to provide our fans with the high quality event they expect from us year after year.” (more…)

How to Contact Media Relations until Sept 3

USE EMAIL: Between now and 9/1, email is the best way to contact either Dan Carroll (mediarelations@dragoncon.org) or Samm Douglas (interviews@dragoncon.org). Our standard is to respond to emails within 4 hours during the day.

If you have a time sensitive situation, such as a pending interview that day, please feel free to follow up with a phone call, but remember we both are working full time careers during the day, so we seldom can respond to a phone call immediately.

September 2 and September 3 we will be in transit to the Dragon Con location.  We will be monitoring our email, and we will respond as possible.  There will be times when we will not be available, please be patient.

How to contact Dragon Con Media Relations September 4-7:

CALL DRAGON CON MEDIA RELATIONS REGISTRATION: You can reach us most effectively by calling the Hyatt Regency and asking for the GREENBRIAR ROOM. Do not ask for Dragon Con Media Relations because that will not make sense to them. They are hotel workers, not Dragon Con staffers.

404-577-1234

We will continue to check phone messages, email, and SMS texts, but cannot guarantee same day responses.  Please read that sentences again…we cannot guarantee same day voice mail, email and SMS text response during Dragon Con. This is why we ask you to call registration.
Pub Crawl!

https://www.facebook.com/events/1499186200374135/

Starts: Wednesday Sept 2: 7:00 PM

Dragon Con Media Relations Volunteer Deena Roth will be guiding reporters through the host hotels while regaling them with facts and interesting information about Dragon Con 2015 and Dragon Cons past! Along the way there is plenty of time to stop for a libation and some conversation with the rest of the team and fellow reporters.

How do I get my badge?

Consistent with previous years, Dragon Con badges will not be mailed prior to the convention.

Badges may be picked up at Media Relations Registration, located at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in the Greenbriar Room.

  • The Hyatt regency is located at: 265 Peachtree Street NE Atlanta, Georgia, USA, 30303
  • The Greenbriar room is located on the Motor Lobby (lowest) level of the hotel, to the left of the elevators and escalators.
